Droids are an important element of any science fiction setting, and go a long way towards setting the tone.
The setting for Star Wars is very different to that of Dune, and this is reflected in Dune’s total lack of robots, despite other super high tech devices such as FTL drives – compared to the many and various droids of Star Wars.
The Tarazet setting has more in common with the ubiquitous robots of Star Wars, but takes things a little further in giving the droids positions of power. The predominant power of the sector is the planet Tarazet, named after its most important city, and the mayor of Tarazet is an ancient and fearful droid called Dr. Fell.
The droids of Tarazet permeate life from this level on down and it is often difficult to make the distinction between a vehicle with AI and a robot that can be piloted by a passenger.
I have followed a common convention in RPGs and Manga by including pilotable robots above the size of an armored spacesuit with the rest of the more conventional droids, rather than with vehicles.
