Spaceships

Spaceships are the most important element of any science-fiction film, game, comic, book or RPG. The look and technology of the spaceships go a
long way towards defining what sort of game universe the story or game is set in.
A spaceship with tractor beams and teleporters is a good indication that the setting is a space-opera type fantasy version of science fiction. If on the
other hand there is wood used in the spaceship or riveted iron plates then we are more likely to be talking about a steampunk setting. But whatever
extreme your spaceship tastes tend towards, it's always nice to see a full colour render of a great 3D spaceship model.
Nothing else quite captures the essence, and bulk of a nice starship like a well-lit 3D rendering of it as it fights for it's life or calmly orbits a planet.

Here at Starbright Illustrations we have a collection of some very nice 3D spaceship images indeed, and we even have some 2D sketches and
Photoshop vector images too for you old fashioned types. If spaceships are our thing, and you like them high tech and rendered in 3D then just take
a look at our selection below, or got to the Starbright Illustrations blog for the latest spaceships to roll of our 3D imaging software.

As well as sculpting and modeling each mesh - and of course rendering it - to produce a fantastic illustration, we thought it would be a good idea it
we added a little information about how exactly each spaceship image was created, and what sort of spaceship we intended it to be, spacecruiser,
spaceliner, etc. We know that both science fiction role-playing game fans and 3D art appreciators visit this site and so each spaceship has some
background detail - fluff it's called inexplicably - to help its integration into an ongoing role-playing game and some information about how the image
was created as a source of hints and tips, and things to avoid.

If you are a player or game master of a role playing game that involves spaceships it's worth checking Blender out, because it's free, but most
importantly it has all the knobs and dials you need to produce some top notch spaceship illustrations, like the ones here for instance, we hope you
enjoy them.
The Star Hound

The Star Hound is the first spaceship
to be designed since Starbright
Illustrations finally got his copy of
Blender working. Before that I had
been using trueSpace which is also
free and also a great 3D modelling
solution.
The Alien Dart

The Alien Dart wasn't so much a design, as a
result of experimentation. It is more an alien
abstract shape than a conventional spaceship,
but there is something hypnotising about it
none the less.
The Grey Angel

The last spaceship I created in trueSpace, the 3D suit I
was using before Blender, and I am still very happy with
it. It has a strange and frightening organic look, including
distorted wings and a mouldy texture that  at the same
time has a little something of the military about it.
The Temanor

This spaceship is very definitely an alien design, and a
powerful one. It is streamlined so that there is no
escaping it, however deeply you dive into the outer
layers of a nearby gas giant. It only has two weapon
systems, but they are unusually powerful, the alien
creatures who designed it are of the, "boot it, don't
piddle on it," school of thought.
The Foragel

A small elegant human spaceship design the Foragel
depends on the speed produced by it's twin
anti-mater engines to avoid trouble. The Foragel is a
mid sized spacecraft and there is only enough space
for a couple of people. It is intended as a short-range
spaceship however so that isn't much of a problem.
The Highlight

A mid-sized spaceship, but ultra
high tech. This spaceship does not
have a defined shape, and can
alter its characteristics as desired.
Here it has extruded huge legs for
a landing, they will disappear at
take off.
The Void Gull

Void Gull class spaceships are relatively rare and
luxurious. They are also underpowered and lacking in
armament. This combination of luxury and
vulnerability makes them irresistible to spacepirates.
The wealthy owners of these elegant craft have been
known to take unusual precautions to protect them.
