This section is all about
2D art, tutorials, illustrations and images.
There is something a
little more immediate about a 2D image. A 3D image produced in one of
the leading 3D packages, like Blender,
might look great when it's done, but it sure takes an awful long time
until it's ready. A pencil sketch on the other hand can sometimes be
done in under five minutes, and it sometimes catches a certain raw
action that's very difficult to catch in 3D.
This doesn't mean that 2D illustrations have to be rough and sketchy
though, or that they are all produced quickly. A detailed vector
illustration made in Photoshop can take weeks and require every bit as
much concentration, skill, familiarity with the software and dare I
say it talent, as the most complex 3D image.
And even when you are not spending hours hunched over Photoshop a
detailed pencil sketch might itself take days to produce. First you
draw the basic shapes, then you add detail, then you start to shade,
and erase and shade again until you have built up the image that
you want.
Here at Starbright we have examples of all the types of illustration I
just mentioned, and we are sketching more all the time. Some of our
favourites are in the list below, and the newest and most immediate
stuff can be found on the blog.
